Mold is a natural part of the environment. Sometimes, we even need mold. Cheese, soy sauce, penicillin: all of these are good products of mold.
But not all mold is created equal and the places we certainly do not need nor want mold are in the walls, floors, or anywhere in your home or business.
Green Home Solutions offers thorough mold inspection services to diagnose an existing mold problem. There are ways to stop mold from becoming a problem. Implement these tips to give yourself a mold-free summer.
Maintain Low Humidity
Mold needs moisture. The summer months bring higher humidity which facilitates the moist environment mold loves. The kitchen and bathroom are especially susceptible to mold for this very reason. Fortunately, modern HVAC systems include a humidity control feature. That said, you still want to wipe away excess moisture that accumulates and make sure that your fans and ventilation systems function properly. Investing in a dehumidifier may be your best bet, especially in exceptionally humid areas.
Control Your Thermostat
Mold thrives in warm temperatures. The sweet spot for mold growth is anywhere from 77°F to 86°F. In your home or business, set the thermostat to the low 70s. This makes it more difficult for mold to grow. Keep this in mind especially if you go on an extended vacation. You may want to bump up the temperature to save on your electricity bill, but don’t put the thermostat too high or you might be giving mold an opportunity to grow.
Clean Your Home Routinely
You don’t have to be a clean freak or need to adopt any extensive lifestyle changes. You are free to be as messy as you like, just make sure that dust, dirt, and moisture don’t accumulate in your home. This includes tasks such as squeegeeing your shower doors, noticing and fixing leaks, and cleaning your tile’s grout.
