Humidity

We started a home remediation today. During the inspection we found that the house has had elevated humidity in the past and the residents have a lot of dust. The dust is from a mix of pets, people, pollen, and other particulates you would normally find in a home. We also found that there were two areas in the basement that had past water leaks that did not get repaired and dried out in a timely manner and created some visible mold. The tasks for the week are cutting out the damage in the basement, under containment, thoroughly cleaning the HVAC duct work, HEPA vacuuming all porous surfaces throughout the home, wiping non-porous surfaces with our enzymatic cleaner, a whole home ozone treatment and a treatment of the entire home with our proprietary, plant and water-based mold disinfectant. The mold disinfectant is EPA registered and proven for both fungi and bacteria. Large air scrubbers with true HEPA and activated carbon filters run throughout the home during the process and will continue to run for at least 12 full air exchanges throughout the home after work is complete.

Back to the dust. Dust is a mixture of organic particulates that can serve as a food source for mold. If humidity in a home rises over 60% RH, mold will begin to thrive. Residents of the home rarely ever see the mold, but it is there in small amounts all through the home. The residents will experience much better air quality upon return. Since they have plants, we will recommend our environmental probiotics to be applied quarterly. The probiotics will shield against pollen, dust mite matter, and pet dander.
